Literal Dupe: Hard Candy Glow all the Way vs Stila Beauty Balm

A lot of the time I avoid high end products because I really do not see a difference. The only things I religiously buy high end are eye shadows and eye shadow primers. About half of my foundation is High End (right now I am using a MAC foundation daily...Yes I know using MAC daily is bad but it does not seem to affect my skin).

Plus, the prices of high end things can be stupid high. 30$ for a mascara? Most of the time I wear a smoky eye with cat liner so my the length of my lashes is not a big deal.

A while ago I got this primer from The Face Shop. I noticed in the store it looked, smelt, and felt like Benefits porefessional primer. At home I compared the ingredients, and they were literally identical. But TFS product was something like 14$, while the Benefit one was around 35$. TFS one came in a tub package with about 20% MORE product!

I was amazed. I knew those makeup companies were just drawing us in with their fancy packaging!

I have really been into the whole illuminated sparkly look. I am not a matte person, I love dimension and glitter.  I thought the Stila Beauty Balm was nice, but I didn't want to pay 50$ for what really is sparkly goo. I picked up Hard Candy' Glow all the Way in Doll Face for 8$ CAD at Wal-Mart today.

Again, I compared the ingredients to Stila's product, and they were very similar

Hard Candy Glow all The Way
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Triethylhexanoin, Butylene Glycol, Dimethiconol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Polymethylsisesquioxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/PEG10/15 Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Colloidal Gold. May Contain: MicaTitanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Carmine

Stila Beauty Balm
Butylphenyl Methyl Propional, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Decarboxy Carnosine HCl, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer , Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance/Parfum, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde, Hexylene Glycol, Hydroxypropylcocoate PEG-8 Dimethicone, Isododecane , Isopentyldiol, Limonene, Linalool, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-37, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Physalis Angulata Extract , Phytic Acid, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Propylene Carbonate, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Silica, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Water. May contain: MicaTitanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Now, I don’t know anything about all of these fancy chemical ingredients (I could not fathom chemistry whatsoever. It is beyond me.) but they seem to share a similar base. Surprisingly, the cheaper product has less ingredients! This might not mean much coming from my un-scientific eye, but I don’t think there is a quality difference between the two. I feel like the Stila Balm just has so much of a mark up when I look at this comparison.

what it looks like straight from the bottle. very pink at first
what it looks like spread out but not fully blended

The Hard Candy Glow Luminizer came in a few shades. I didn't want to be that douche who opens stuff up at Walmart, so I went with this shade as the others seemed to be more white pearl based or bronze-y. I also liked the name Doll Face. The colour is definitely on the pink side. It is very illuminating, like there are tiny grains of glitter in the balm. It blends out super easily, you just need your hands.

It is great to add to your cheekbones for that extra dimension. It isnt drying on me or anything.

Another plus is how much product you get. Stila's has 1.3 OZ, while Hard Candy's has 2.70! That is literally twice as much.
